St. Thomas Malankara Syrian Catholic Parish, is one of the largest parishes in the whole Malankara Catholic Church, with 557 families as its members.  Most of the members are Malankarites born and brought up in various places of the State, came to Nalanchira and settled down here. At least one Family each from almost all the parishes of Malankara Catholic Church are now members of this parish.  Hence this Parish can be taken as a cross-section of Malankara Catholic Church.

Nalanchira, is a place lying in the outskirts of the Capital City of the State of Kerala and close to the Gateway to the City from the North. This place is fortunate to have several educational Institutions –One First Grade College, 3 Professional Colleges, 5 Higher Secondary Schools, a major Seminary, 3 minor Seminaries and several Technical Institutions.  Establishment of so many prestigious educational institutions, in this place is one of the main reasons for the Malankarites from various parts of the State to migrate to this place. Closeness to the City and accessibility to all the facilities available in the City by staying outside the City, Calm and religious atmosphere are the other reasons which attracted people from far and wide to settle down in this place.  Due to the increase in the population, there is steady increase in the number of parishioners also.

The jurisdiction of the Parish is from Pananvila to Mannanthala in the Main central road. Malankara Catholic Families residing on both the sides of this Road are members of this Parish.  There are 11 Prayer Groups in the Church having an average of 50 active families in each group.  All these prayer groups meet on every Sunday for prayer meeting between 4PM and 5PM.  There is a Leader and Co-ordinator for each group who take care of the activities of their Group. Each Prayer Group arrange Christmas carol and visit all the families in their group during Christmas season.  Zonal Conventions at their respective areas are arranged by these groups during the lent period.

A unit of Malankara Catholic Association, Malankara Catholic Youth Movement and Mathrusamajam are functioning in this parish. Each of these groups are very active. They are having separate meetings every month on pre-fixed days. Family visits, tours of its members, undertaking social service programmes, participation in sports and cultural competitions arranged at diocesan level, and district level and participation in the various programmes arranged at the Parish are some of the activities undertaken by these organizations.

From the very inception of this Parish, Sunday School for the children is arranged in a systematic way.  This Parish is fortunate to have nearly 250 teachers of various colleges and Schools as its members.  Therefore, Sunday school classes are conducted in a professional way by experienced teachers. Bethany Sisters are magnanimous to provide St. Goretti School, for conducting the Sunday School classes.
Students of this Sunday School fares well in examinations, sports and cultural competitions conducted at the District and Diocesan levels.

This parish is having a Choir which is well known throughout Malankara Catholic Church.  Talented men, women and children with the aid of modern musical instruments sing melodious songs and make the worship more attractive and effective. The boys who are assisting the Priest in the alter for various services are having Alter Boys Association.

International Movements in the Catholic church -  Legion of Mary and Vincent De Paul Society, are having active branches in the Parish, which undertake several social service activities through prayer and action. Bethania Prayer Group is another organization in the Church which arranges Charismatic Prayer meetings and adoration before blessed sacrament.
