The reunion of His Grace Geevarghese Mar Ivanios, Metropolitan of Bethany with the Catholic Church on 20th September 1930 was a historical event in the Universal Catholic Church, which inspired many of the Malankarites to reunite with the Catholic Church.  The Malankara Catholic Church steadily grew and spread throughout South India in a short span of time.

     Syro Malankara Hierarchy was established through the Apostolic Constitution ‘Christo Pastorum Principi’ of 11th June 1932 promulgated by Pope Pius XI.  The Metropolitan Eparchy of Trivandrum was inaugurated on 11th May 1933 and His Grace Mar Ivanios was enthroned as its first Metropolitan-Archbishop.

    Archbishop Mar Ivanios established his Head Quarters at Pattom, Trivandrum.  He decided to have an Ashram, a Covent and a Mission Centre very near to his residence.  Hence he purchased land at two sides of the Main road in Nalanchira, two kilometers north of Pattom...

St. Thomas Malankara Syrian Catholic Parish, is one of the largest parishes in the whole Malankara Catholic Church, with 557 families as its members.  Most of the members are Malankarites born and brought up in various places of the State, came to Nalanchira and settled down here. At least one Family each from almost all the parishes of Malankara Catholic Church are now members of this parish.  Hence this Parish can be taken as a cross-section of Malankara Catholic Church.
